Our Team
Matthew Cauble – Chief Executive Officer, Co-founder
Matt oversees product functionality, vision, and financing for Athina. Matt hopes that he can be part of a company that makes a meaningful impact on the reading world for consumers and producers. He believes that the most important customer in book distribution is the writers and publishers. Therefore, he is structuring Athina to appeal to the content creators first and making it easier for readers to find good books.
In May 2011, Matt graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Systems Engineering and a certificate in Finance. While studying, he was part of multiple campus organizations, oversaw the student government finance committee, and served as his fraternity’s president. Additionally, Matt was responsible for leading many campus wide efforts in fundraising and awareness for various charitable organizations. He held a summer internship with Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the summer of 2010.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck is Matt's favorite read, but he loves to explore new books in any genre. Currently, Matt is discovering books that are informative and thrilling to read such as Red and Me and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Matt enjoys great literary discussions. He hopes that Athina can improve discovery and the reader community so that more people will find the joy in reading.
Robert Rhinehart – Chief Technical Officer, Co-founder
Rob heads up the technical development of Athina, designing and implementing a full-featured scalable and intuitive web application with strict performance and security requirements, along with mobile application counterparts. He wants to utilize technology to improve people's way of life and sees increasing readership both for educational and entertainment purposes as a great way to do this.
Rob is a double major at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, specializing in embedded systems and network communication. He served as the president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the largest student branch in the nation, interned in Poland, studied in China, and worked as a freelance programmer for several non-profit organizations. Rob enjoys hacking on open source software and hardware.
He has long been an avid reader, whose favorites include Vonnegut, Asimov, Douglas Adams, Dostoyevsky and Thoreau, though he spends most of his time now reading the latest arxiv.org papers, ARRL or IEEE engineering manuals, and Brian Greene or Hawking. One day he'll make it through Knuth's canon but for now his favorite book is Gödel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter.
Speros Kokenes – Chief Operations Officer, Co-founder
Speros leads the marketing, operations, and analytics of Athina. As an independent artist himself, Speros sees the potential in Athina to provide artists with an unprecedented level of information about the interaction between their content and audience. He believes that through Athina, the communication between writers and readers can blossom, fostering both artistic development and effective marketing.
Speros is a graduate of the Industrial and System Engineering program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. During his time at the Institute, Speros worked as a teaching assistant in the Computer Science department, as well as serving as Vice President of his fraternity. He also interned at a multimedia production outfit, getting an in-depth perspective of the creative content industry. Furthermore, Speros is a self-published musician who has attracted the attention of indie bloggers and gained an award nomination for his soundtrack contributions in a film festival.
Psychology and music history are Speros' favorite subjects to read about, and he most recently has enjoyed absorbing Robert Jourdain's "Music, the Brain, and Ecstasy: How Music Captures Our Imagination". Similar to Jourdain's thesis, Speros envisions Athina helping authors to understand how their content captures the imagination of their readers.
